Re-roofing
Re-roofing, in the dry months
Most re-roofs here go on from June through September, when the deck stays dry and shingles seal well.
You get a written estimate that lists the tear-off, the deck check, the underlayment, the flashing and the ventilation line by line. If a line isn't on it, it isn't in the price.

How it runs
A re-roof, day by day
A typical house. Steep, complicated or metal roofs take longer.
- 01
Step 1: Before
We walk the yard and tell you where the bin and the truck will sit. Plants beside the house get covered.
- 02
Step 2: Day one: tear-off
Old roofing comes off in sections, each covered by the end of the day. Metal and cardboard go in their own bins.
- 03
Step 3: Deck check
We look at the sheathing from above and from the attic. Bad boards are priced per sheet on your estimate.
- 04
Step 4: Day two: the new roof
Underlayment, flashing, vents and the roof itself, in that order.
- 05
Step 5: Cleanup
A magnet sweeps the beds and the driveway for nails. You get photos of the finished roof and the papers.
Materials
What we install

Asphalt shingle
The usual choice. Roofs are often replaced after 20 to 30 years. Ask about the maker's recycled content and rated colors.

Standing seam metal
Often lasts 40 to 70 years and sheds debris well. Panels carry solar racking without drilling the roof.

Cedar shake
A traditional look for older houses, often 25 to 50 years. It needs the most moss care of the three.
Re-roofing
About a re-roof
How long does a roof last?
Most asphalt shingle roofs are replaced after 20 to 30 years, cedar after 25 to 50 and metal after 40 to 70. In our damp, shaded streets, moss and clogged gutters shorten that, and care stretches it. At the visit we tell you how many years your roof has left and what we based it on.
How long does a replacement take?
Most houses take one to three days. Steep, complicated or metal roofs take longer, and rain moves the start. We never tear off more than we can dry in that day.
Do I need a permit?
Almost always for a full replacement. We pull it, and the fee is its own line on your estimate.
What is a cool roof, and does Eugene need one?
A cool roof reflects more of the sun's heat than a dark one. In Eugene it is a question about summer attics: it can help in July and does little in January. We show you the rated reflectance of the colors you're choosing between.
Should I replace my roof before solar?
If your roof has about ten years of life or less, many roofers suggest replacing it first, because taking panels off and putting them back costs extra. We check the roof's age at the visit and tell you which should come first.
Want us to look at your roof?
We come to you, walk the roof and the attic, and write down what we see.
